A trip to Upper Turitea Dam and Waste Water Treatment Plant.
Get up close and personal with Palmerston North’s Turitea dam! Water tours will take you to the upper Turitea dam. Here you will see the reservoir, which stores some of the city’s water supply. You will actively learn about the mini hydro generators, used to power the water treatment plant. Witnessing renewable energy at its finest. The tour will also provide a unique opportunity to see how our water is treated, to become consumable within our households.
Ever wondered what happens to our waste water? The waste water treatment plant is also a stop on the list. Here water from showers, toilets, kitchen sinks and outdoor pipes is treated and then released back into our waterways. Water tours are a great way to educate and inspire all generations of citizens. It is a chance to renew our appreciation for a natural resource we often take for granted – water! But also nurture our own moral responsibilities to change the way we use water.
